I bought this antique kitchen table for $75 at a local thrift shop last fall and finally finished restoring it last weekend.  It sold within a week on @FacebookMarketplace for $450.  Woo hoo!  That is a $375 profit! I was so excited because this was the first piece of furniture I specifically bought to refinish and sell.

Here are the DIY steps for this furniture flip:

  1. Sand with 60 to 80 grit sandpaper with an orbital sander
  2. Use a wire scrub brush attachment on your drill to sand in the detailed legs
  3. Apply an oil-based wood conditioner @minwax with a foam brush
  4. Sand lightly with a 220 grit sandpaper and wipe dust off
  5. Apply Jacobean oil based stain @minwax with a brush and wipe off with a rag
  6. Sand lightly with 220 grit sandpaper
  7. Apply polyurethane (warm satin, mixed with a little bit of mineral spirits) with a rag (I applied 4 coats of polyurethane)
  8. Sand lightly with 220 grit sandpaper in between coats.

The new stain color is rich and brings out the grain of the wood so beautifully.  If I had a place in my home for this table, I would have kept it.  But instead, I hope the family who bought it has it for years to come!
